- Stefano Longo, Rebecca Clausen, and Brett Clark, who won the 2017 Paul M. Sweezy Marxist Sociology Book Award from the American Sociological Association for their book, The Tragedy of the Commodity: Oceans, Fisheries, and Aquaculture, which was based on their 2014 article in MR magazine, “Capitalism and the Commodification of Salmon”;
- Richard York, who, with Brett Clark, wrote The Science and Humanism of Stephen Jay Gould, and with Clark and John Bellamy Foster, wrote The Ecological Rift: Capitalism’s War on the Earth and Critique of Intelligent Design: Materialism versus Creationism from Antiquity to the Present. York has just won the 2017 Fred Buttel Distingushed Contribution Award from the Environment and Technology section of the ASA;
- Hannah Holleman, who won the 2017 Fred Buttel Outstanding Scholarly Achievement Award from the Rural Sociology Society for her article, “De-naturing Ecological Disaster: Colonialism, Racism, and the Global Dustbowl of the 1930s,” published in The Journal of Peasant Studies. Holleman also writes frequently for MR magazine.
